To drive from Kenya into Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia and 8 other countries, get a COMESA yellow card from your insurer. It covers third-party injury, death and property damage in the country you visit, with optional emergency medical cover for driver and passengers. Kenya's national bureau is Kenya Reinsurance Corporation; check a card by dialling *384*254# (Safaricom).
What the yellow card covers
The yellow card is accepted in Burundi, DR Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It covers bodily injury, death and property damage to third parties; emergency medical treatment for the driver and passengers is optional. Liability is limited to the third-party limits of the country visited (COMESA).
You buy it from your own insurer; the price depends on the length of the trip, the size of the vehicle and the issuing country.
