Jubilee insurance medical cover packages in Kenya: plans, prices and hospitals
The packages Jubilee lists for individuals and families
Jubilee Health Insurance's J-Care brochure ("effective 1st December 2023", the edition online when we checked in September 2026) and its J-Care Johari brochure describe these covers. What follows is Jubilee's own statement, not a rating.
- J-Care — the family cover: an inpatient core plan at one of six levels (Classic, Premier, Advanced, Executive, Royal, Prestige), to which you can add outpatient, maternity, dental, optical, last expense and personal accident cover. Open from birth (a term baby of 38 weeks) to 64 years.
- J-Care Junior — children under 18 can be the main member, at the rates of the J-Care plan chosen.
- J-Seniors — per the brochure, members aged 65 and above are moved to J-Seniors and covered for life, subject to annual renewal and underwriting review.
- J-Care Johari — an "affordable" package with two plans (A and B) where inpatient and outpatient are sold together; main member and spouse from 18 to 60 years, covered up to 65.
Jubilee Health is one of the licensed companies of the Jubilee group — see its Jubilee profile for the regulator's figures and complaint count.
J-Care: inpatient limits and yearly premiums
The inpatient cover is the core of every J-Care plan. The limit is per family per year; the premium is per person per year, in Kenya shillings, for a principal member aged 18 to 30:
| Plan | Inpatient limit per family | Principal (18–30) | Spouse | Child (birth–17) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic | 500,000 | 21,316 | 15,673 | 10,282 |
| Premier | 1,000,000 | 25,621 | 21,513 | 13,899 |
| Advanced | 2,000,000 | 30,215 | 25,380 | 16,920 |
| Executive | 3,000,000 | 36,928 | 32,004 | 21,295 |
| Royal | 5,000,000 | 48,028 | 42,539 | 27,444 |
| Prestige | 10,000,000 | 55,033 | 48,744 | 31,448 |
Premiums rise with age: the brochure has separate rows for principals aged 31–40, 41–50, 51–59 and 60–64, and says the premium is based on the age of the oldest applicant. Outpatient is optional and priced per person — for someone aged 40 or below, from KES 26,555 a year for a KES 50,000 limit (Classic) to KES 55,168 for KES 200,000 (Prestige).
J-Care Johari: the two-plan package
Johari is priced per family, with inpatient and outpatient bundled. From the Johari brochure, in Kenya shillings per year:
| Family | Plan A (inpatient 200,000, outpatient 40,000) | Plan B (inpatient 400,000, outpatient 50,000) |
|---|---|---|
| Main member alone | 25,564 | 30,687 |
| Member + 1 | 35,749 | 42,922 |
| Member + 2 | 45,936 | 55,157 |
- Panel only: treatment must be within the prescribed provider panel; claims outside it are not paid, and the scheme does not reimburse.
- Changes at renewal: benefit levels can only be changed when the policy is renewed.
- How to apply: Jubilee says you can dial *643*5# or fill in its online application form.
Waiting periods, exclusions and the SHA question
| What | Waiting period (J-Care brochure) |
|---|---|
| Illness claims for new members | 30 days (none for accidents) |
| Pre-existing and chronic conditions, psychiatric, congenital, HIV/AIDS, gynaecological conditions, hernias and similar procedures | 1 year |
| Maternity, including a caesarean, where purchased | 1 year |
| Cancer treatment | 2 years |
Every application, including transfers from another insurer, goes through medical underwriting, and new applicants aged 50 and above must have a medical examination at their own cost. Exclusions listed by Jubilee include cosmetic surgery (unless after an accident), fertility treatment, weight-loss treatment, alternative medicine and hazardous sports.
Hospitals: the panel and the co-payments
Jubilee publishes a standard provider panel listing hospitals, medical centres, pharmacies, labs, imaging and optical providers county by county, plus telemedicine providers. Your membership card must be run at a panel provider, with identification, and you sign the provider's invoice.
On J-Care outpatient, the brochure lists hospitals where you pay an outpatient co-payment of KES 1,000 or KES 2,000, among them Nairobi Hospital (main facility), Aga Khan University Hospital (Parklands), MP Shah, Karen Hospital, Mater, Gertrude's Children's Hospital (Muthaiga) and Mombasa Hospital — ask Jubilee for the amount at the hospital you use. The brochure says there is no outpatient co-payment in all other hospitals.
How to buy a Jubilee medical cover
- Choose the inpatient limit, then add the optional benefits you want.
- Fill in and sign the application form with the documents: national ID and KRA PIN certificate of every adult, and a birth certificate or stamped birth notification for each child under 18.
- Wait for Jubilee's answer: the brochure says within 3 working days of receiving the application.
- Pay the full year: cover starts only once the premium is paid in full and confirmed in writing; waiting periods run from that date.
- Receive the welcome pack (card, welcome letter, policy document, provider panel) within 30 days of the start of the policy.
- Before a planned admission, get pre-authorisation at least 48 hours ahead; in an emergency the hospital contacts Jubilee within 48 hours.
Read the policy document itself before paying — the brochures are summaries. Compare Jubilee's plans with the rest of the market in our health insurance guide, and to receive offers from several licensed insurers, ask for quotes.
