Who can join, and how

  1. Check the age: the principal member must be 18 to 64; anyone aged 50 or above takes a medical examination before joining.
  2. Gather the documents: the completed medical application form, national ID or passport of the principal and spouse, birth certificates of children up to 18, proof of schooling for children aged 19 to 25, and the principal's KRA PIN certificate.
  3. Get a quote and buy through a broker or agent, at a Madison branch, online on Madison's website or by USSD *828# (Airtel or Safaricom).
  4. Pay the full premium: Madison lists payment of the full applicable premium among the enrolment requirements.

Before signing, ask for the policy document and the provider panel for your plan. To compare Madison with other insurers' published family covers — AAR, APA, Britam, CIC, Jubilee — or to receive offers from several licensed insurers, ask for quotes. Private cover comes on top of SHA, not instead of it: see SHA vs private medical insurance.

If a claim is delayed once all documents are in, section 203 of the Insurance Act sets the time limit for payment; our complaints guide explains how to escalate to IRA.
