What Britam says about the price of comprehensive cover
Britam's Comprehensive Motor Insurance page gives no rate, minimum premium or price list. It mentions "flexible premium rates and terms", a no claim discount "building up to 60% depending on the number of years for not claiming" and a discount on fleets, and sends you to a quote or callback form. So any figure presented as "Britam's price" outside a written quote from Britam is not Britam's own statement.
For a comprehensive policy, the main things a Kenyan insurer asks before quoting are the car's value (the sum insured), its use and your claims record. To see how one insurer that does publish its schedule turns a car's value into a premium, read our page on how car insurance prices are set.
What Britam's comprehensive car insurance covers
Britam's own page says the policy covers "accidental damage or overturning, loss or damage by fire and theft, malicious damage, and third party liabilities". Its lists, as published:
| Item | What Britam's page says (seen October 2026) |
|---|---|
| Accidental damage | Compensation if your car is accidentally damaged |
| Fire | Covered if your car catches fire accidentally |
| Theft | Compensation if the car is stolen, subject to an excess |
| Total loss | The car is treated as a total loss if repairs cost more than 50% of the sum assured |
| Third-party liability | Injury or death of third parties and accidental damage to their property |
| Free benefits | Windscreen; theft of audio and video accessories; spare wheel, jack and toolbox; protection, recovery and towing after an accident |
| Other | Full discount on Controller Technique fees at renewal; cover for the car while in a motor trader's or garage's custody |
| Where | Kenya, extendable to other East African countries on request |
The page does not state the money limits of the free benefits or the amount of the excess. Ask for them in writing with your quote: they decide what you actually receive after a claim.
Comprehensive or third-party at Britam
Britam's Third-Party Car Insurance page describes its two cheaper levels of cover:
- Third-Party Only (TPO): liability for damage to third-party persons and injuries caused by the insured vehicle — the legal minimum.
- Third Party, Fire & Theft (TP&FT): the same liability, plus protection against fire and theft of your own vehicle.
- Comprehensive: adds accidental damage to your own car and the free benefits listed above.
Britam's page is plain about the limit: third-party policies "won't cover damages to your own vehicle or injuries to yourself". Our third-party vs comprehensive guide explains what the law requires and when comprehensive cover is worth it.
Paying in instalments with Britam MotiFlex
MotiFlex is not a different cover: Britam says it gives "the same robust protection as our standard motor insurance policy", with the premium spread over 12 months. What Britam publishes about it:
- Instalments: monthly, quarterly or semi-annual — the MotiFlex terms say these are "the only instalment options available".
- First payment: "as low as Kshs. 10,000".
- Cost: payments are "adjusted based on standard rates, with a slight adjustment to account for the time value of money" — Britam does not publish the size of that adjustment, so ask for the total you will pay over the year next to the single-payment price.
- Extras listed on the page: a road rescue service available around the clock, windscreen claims reported through WhatsApp and an express assessment for minor claims.
Conditions to read before you pay
Britam's Motor Private terms (the same document as the MotiFlex terms) set rules that can change what you are covered for:
- Valuation deadline: the vehicle must be valued within 14 days of the cover being issued. If Britam has not received the valuation report by the 30th day, the cover "shall automatically reduce to TPO" — third-party only, with no cover for your own car.
- Private use only: social, domestic or pleasure use and the insured's business or profession; no use for hire or reward. A car used for ride-hailing needs a commercial policy — see our matatu, PSV and ride-hailing guide.
- Your history: another insurer must not have declined your proposal, raised your premium or imposed special terms, repudiated a claim, cancelled your policy or refused to renew it.
- Duty-free vehicles: the declared value excludes customs duty; repairs are paid at Kenyan labour cost plus duty-free spare parts, at a garage on Britam's approved panel, and any duty on a total loss is for the owner to pay.
How to get and compare a Britam comprehensive quote
- Have the car's details ready: its current value, its use (private or commercial) and your claims-free years, so the no claim discount can be applied.
- Request the quote from Britam through the "Get a Quote" or callback form on its motor page, or a licensed intermediary.
- Ask for it in writing: the premium, the excess, the limits of each free benefit, and — for MotiFlex — the instalment amounts and the total for the year.
- Book the valuation as soon as the cover starts, so it does not fall back to third-party only.
- Check the certificate once issued: our DMVIC check guide shows how.
If you would rather keep Britam's annual price and spread it through a bank loan, read how insurance premium financing works. To set Britam's quote against other licensed insurers for the same car and the same cover, ask for quotes here.

Can I pay Britam car insurance monthly?
Yes, through Britam MotiFlex: the comprehensive premium is spread over 12 months in monthly, quarterly or semi-annual instalments, with an initial payment Britam says can be as low as Kshs. 10,000. Payments include a slight adjustment for the time value of money.
What does Britam comprehensive car insurance cover?

What is Britam's no claim discount?
