Jubilee car insurance in Kenya

Who sells it now, what the cover includes and how to buy

Short answerChecked 19 October 2026
Jubilee no longer sells car insurance in Kenya under its own name: its general insurance company, Jubilee Allianz General Insurance (K) Limited, merged with Sanlam General Insurance on 1 November 2025 to form Sanlam Allianz General Insurance (Kenya) Limited, which now writes the motor cover. IRA's 2026 list of licensed insurers has no Jubilee company for motor — only Jubilee Health Insurance, for medical cover. Sanlam Allianz's motor page (seen October 2026) lists the cover, benefit limits and excesses, but no premium rate: each car is quoted individually.

What happened to Jubilee's car insurance

Jubilee's motor policies in Kenya were issued by its general insurance company, not by the Jubilee companies that sell health and life cover today. That company changed hands in two steps, each stated by the companies themselves:

  • May 2021: Allianz announced it had completed the purchase of a 66% stake in Jubilee General Insurance Limited, Jubilee Holdings keeping 34%; the company was to operate as "Jubilee Allianz General Insurance Limited" (Allianz press release).
  • 1 November 2025: Sanlam Allianz says that "Jubilee Allianz General Insurance (K) Limited and Sanlam General Insurance Limited were merged to form Sanlam Allianz General Insurance (Kenya) Limited" (SanlamAllianz Kenya, Who we are).

The regulator's list agrees: IRA's 2026 list of licensed entities names Sanlam Allianz General Insurance (Kenya) Limited among the general insurers, and no Jubilee general insurer. The only Jubilee company in the general list is Jubilee Health Insurance, which writes medical cover. Jubilee's own Kenya website (seen October 2026) offers life, pension, health and asset management products, and no motor cover.

Search results and old adverts still say "Jubilee motor insurance". If someone offers you a new car policy in Jubilee's name, check which company issues it: the insurer named on the policy and the certificate must be on IRA's list. Our Jubilee profile shows which Jubilee companies are licensed in Kenya, and for what.

What the motor cover includes (Sanlam Allianz's own page)

Sanlam Allianz's motor personal lines page says its motor insurance covers "accidental loss or damage to the insured motor vehicle, death or bodily injury to the vehicle crew and third parties as well as loss or damage to property of third parties". What it lists, as published (seen October 2026):

ItemWhat the page says
Also coveredDamage from riot, strike and civil commotion; "no blame, no excess" subject to a police abstract; free valuation and inspection
Authorised repair limitKES 30,000
Medical, towing, windscreen, car entertainmentKES 30,000 each
Third-party personsUnlimited
Third-party property damageKES 20,000,000
Passenger liabilityKES 3 million per person, KES 20 million per event
WhereEast Africa, excluding third-party liabilities outside Kenya

The same page shows a second, higher-limit table it calls "Premia": emergency medical expenses KES 200,000, repair authority KES 100,000, windscreen and car entertainment KES 100,000 each, third-party property damage KES 30,000,000, loss of use at KES 5,000 a day for up to 30 days, and a personal accident benefit of KES 1,000,000 for accidental death. The page does not give the price of either level — ask which one your quote is for.

This is comprehensive cover. If you only want the legal minimum, read our third-party vs comprehensive guide first.

The excesses you pay on a claim

The excess is the part of each claim you pay yourself. Sanlam Allianz's page lists:

  • Own damage: 2.5% of the sum insured, at least KES 20,000 and at most KES 100,000.
  • Theft, with an anti-theft device: 10% of the value, at least KES 20,000.
  • Theft, without an anti-theft device: 20% of the value, at least KES 20,000.
  • Theft, with a tracking device or fleet management system: 2.5% of the value, at least KES 20,000.
  • Third-party property damage: KES 7,500.
  • Young or inexperienced driver (under 21, or licensed under a year): an extra KES 5,000.

So on a car stolen without an anti-theft device, a fifth of its value stays with you. A tracker cuts that share to 2.5%, according to the page — worth weighing against the cost of fitting one.

Optional extras and their published prices

Unlike the cover itself, some extras carry a price on the page:

  • 24-hour road rescue by the Automobile Association of Kenya: KES 3,000 a year.
  • Infama road rescue membership: KES 6,960 a year.
  • Excess protector: 0.25%, minimum KES 3,000, on accidental own damage.
  • Political violence and terrorism: 0.25%, minimum KES 2,000.

The page does not say what the 0.25% is applied to; ask for each extra as a separate line on the written quote, in shillings.

If you already hold a Jubilee motor policy

Since the merger, the company that issued Jubilee Allianz motor policies is part of Sanlam Allianz General Insurance (Kenya) Limited. For a claim or a renewal, contact Sanlam Allianz, not the Jubilee health or life companies — its motor page links to its online renewal and claim forms.

  • Check your certificate: the insurer it shows must match the policy, and its status can be checked on DMVIC — see our motor certificate check guide.
  • At renewal, ask for the new schedule in writing: the limits, the excesses and the extras may not be those of your old Jubilee Allianz policy.
  • Compare before renewing: Sanlam Allianz's figures with the regulator are on its profile.

How to buy the cover that replaced Jubilee motor insurance

  1. Have the car's details ready: its current value (the sum insured), its use — private or commercial — and your claims history.
  2. Ask Sanlam Allianz for a quote through its online motor portal or its "Request a Quote" form, or through a licensed agent or broker.
  3. Get it in writing: the premium, which limit table applies, each excess and each extra in shillings.
  4. Book the free valuation and inspection the page offers, so the sum insured is right.
  5. Check the certificate once issued, before you drive.

Whether the excess protector is worth its premium for your car is worked out in our excess protector article. To set Sanlam Allianz's quote against other licensed insurers for the same car and the same cover, ask for quotes here.

Frequently asked questions

Does Jubilee still offer car insurance in Kenya?

Not under its own name. Jubilee's general insurer, Jubilee Allianz General Insurance (K), merged with Sanlam General Insurance on 1 November 2025 to form Sanlam Allianz General Insurance (Kenya), which now sells motor cover. Jubilee's Kenyan companies sell health, life, pension and asset management products.

Who handles my old Jubilee Allianz motor claim?

Sanlam Allianz General Insurance (Kenya) Limited, the company formed by the merger. Its motor page links to its claim and renewal forms.

How much is Jubilee (Sanlam Allianz) comprehensive car insurance?

The motor page publishes no premium rate (seen October 2026); each car is quoted individually. It does price some extras, such as AA road rescue at KES 3,000 a year.

What is the excess on Sanlam Allianz car insurance?

According to its page: 2.5% of the sum insured for own damage (KES 20,000 to KES 100,000), 10% or 20% of the value for theft depending on an anti-theft device (2.5% with a tracker), KES 7,500 for third-party property damage, plus KES 5,000 for a young or inexperienced driver.

Is Jubilee Health Insurance a motor insurer?

No. Jubilee Health Insurance is listed by IRA as a general insurer, but it writes medical cover. None of the Jubilee companies on IRA's 2026 list sells motor insurance; Jubilee's Kenyan website offers no motor cover.
